Welcome to Year 6 Juniper Class! Year 6 is the final year for our students at Hawthorn and it will be a year full of exciting opportunities and challenges.
We have high expectations for our pupils in Year 6 with them receiving extra responsibilities and being role-models for the younger children in school which we know they will all do a superb job at.
During the year, children will be expected to work particularly hard in the run up to SATs and attend revision clubs but in return they will be rewarded with many happy memories, lasting friendships and extra treats along the way!
Throughout the year, we will also be focussing on lots of interesting topics including Ancient Egypt, WW1 and looking at worldwide issues and conflicts.
Mr R Mayes - Class Teacher / SENCo
Mrs A Pitchfork- Class Teacher
Mrs J Aspden - Teaching Assistant
Every week, our expectation is for children to read for 15 minutes at home at least 4 times a week. On a Friday, reading diaries will be checked to see if children have read at home 4 times and if they have, they will receive a stamp on their StarBOOKS loyalty card to work towards earning a treat.
Every Friday, a Grammar and Maths piece homework will be set and 5 homework spellings will be sent home to practise ready to be tested on the following Friday. Grammar and Maths homework will usually be set electronically on Ed Shed (Spelling Shed and Maths Shed) and Times Table Rockstars.
PE – Monday and Friday
Please remember to bring a spare pair of shoes for the children to change into at play time to go onto the field which can get very muddy in Autumn and Winter and remember to bring a water bottle to school (labelled with your name) to help stay hydrated throughout the day.
